How to save instagram stories

  1. Open the story

    Tap through to the specific story frame you want. Each frame has its own link.

  2. Copy the link

    Use the three-dot menu and choose Copy link. On desktop, the address bar shows the frame's own URL as you advance.

  3. Paste it here

    The file downloads in whatever form the story was posted — video keeps its sound, photos keep their full resolution.

What this cannot do

A story has to be public and still within its 24 hours. Once it expires, Instagram deletes it and there is nothing left to fetch — a downloader cannot recover a story that is already gone.

Will the person know I saved their story?

Instagram tells them you viewed it, exactly as it would if you watched normally. Downloading afterwards adds nothing further — but viewing does leave your name in their list.

Can I download a story after it expires?

No. After 24 hours Instagram removes the file from its servers. If it is not in the person's Highlights, no tool can bring it back.

Do Highlights work?

Yes. Highlights are stories the account chose to keep, so they stay reachable and download the same way.

Why does a story link sometimes fail?

Usually the account is private, or the story expired between copying the link and pasting it. Both are refusals from Instagram rather than problems on our side.
